GEAR's currents feature includes:
- A editor and tool environment that enables programmers and artists to work seamlessly together.
- A runtime environment that supports multiple devices
- A object oriented and well documented API in C++
- A animation system.
- A LUA script engine.
- A AR (Augmented Reality) engine with tracking support
GEAR is licensable for commercial organization and available for free for students. SO4IT provides 24/7 support, courses and consulting aroung GEAR. Please feel free to contact us at gear@so4it.com.
GEAR is based on open standards like Open GL, Open GL ES, EGL, OpenKode, OpenMAX and includes a number of open source frameworks. Our team actively contributs to the open source community and in the future an OpenGEAR release is planned.

EDS a HP company
Course: Developing Applications For the Java EE platform (FJ-310 EE 5)
Teacher: Magnus Poromaa
"I attended a 5 day course from Sun Microsystems to navigate myself around Java EE. The teacher showed profound knowledge on the subject and he guided us through the study material with great enthusiasm. Beside the predetermined material we had arbitrary discussions around Java enterprise where the teacher gave us perspective by showing us real world examples from Java EE and other similar frameworks. I can highly recommend it, as I graded it 5 out of 5."
Bertil Lilja System Architect at EDS a HP company, Sweden
Handelsbanken
Course: FJ-Developing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications (SL-425)
Teacher: Magnus Poromaa
"For a long time I've been interested in learning how to develop an architecture. As a core developer for Handelsbanken I live in a heterogeneous technical environment where changes must be controlled. In this course I learned what QoS (Quality of Service) means and how to apply it to the architecture of an application. It opened my eyes to the importance of interaction between the architect and the stakeholder as well as the architect and the development team. I did not consider myself to be a leader before. I do now, and I look forward to apply my newly found knowledge to my excellent software team. The teacher was well founded in reality and showed great skills in explaining both simple and advanced concepts around architecture. It was also a big advantage that he was technically skilled and knew programming well. He showed us solutions to real world problems, using design patterns in a Java EE environment."
Johan Mårtensson System Architect at Handelsbanken, Sweden
Gigaspaces
SO4IT is a preferred educational provider to Gigaspace the next generations application server provider.
The Web is quickly becoming the number one channel for sales, marketing and social networking. With a successful Web site you may experience millions of users accessing it on a daily basis. Accessibility parameters includes up-time, response time and user experience to mention a few.
We teach ways to improve scalability and performance by using cloud computing on the Gigaspaces platform and Amazon EC2. The approach to teaching is pragmatic and on each course we build a limited version of a real live site. Examples includes a E-Commerce site and a media blog or if you wish a "Gigaspaced" version of your own suite.
Open Source and Mentorship
Open source code is developed as a public collaboration between developers around the world. If you use open source code in your applications, you agree to follow the license agreements attached to it. SO4IT will be happy to answer any questions or concern you might have about open source code licenses. Contact our legal department at opensourcelaw@so4it.com for a free consultation.
The benefits of using open source in your organization are shorter time to market, increased reliability and a significant cost reduction. The key to using open source is a solid understanding of the technologies involved and knowing when and how to use it efficiently. Taking the wrong path will often cost you both time and money.
At SO4IT we have created our own solution oriented and open source based curriculum. Each course is based on a project we have done for a customer. The idea is to teach technology in a context of a real world problem rather then just teaching the technology. Each student receives a certificate and the end of the course and a login to SO4IT's student portal where material can be found.
We also offer mentorship on site where you can benefit from our extensive open source knowledge. Usually we work with your team for a couple of month with a mixture of lectures and private session. The idea is to raise the awareness of how you build an open source based architecture and thereby gain benefits like quick time to market, employment satisfaction by staying on the leading edge, system robustness and high scalability.
Please mail us for more information for any of the courses or mentorship programs we provide.

Course: Open source concepts for a media blog
Teacher: Magnus Poromaa and Torbjörn Johansson
"When building a new media blog we felt that we needed seniority in the team to help us cope with the vast selection of open source Java technologies available. Our team consisted of 5 developers with little or no experience in enterprise Java, so we needed someone who could help us with the development and at the same time teach us the ins and outs of modern Java. We hired SO4IT to be a part of our team for 7 months and they mixed the day-to-day work with lectures around open source subjects like Hibernate, Jboss AS, Apache CXF, Java Server Faces and Adobe Flash/Flex. They provided us with knowledge that was invaluable for our current and future product development. With their help we were able to make the right choices, saving our company time and money as well as giving our team credibility towards our own management team."

Teacher: Anders Hansson

The Linde Group
The Linde Group is a world leading gas and engineering company with more then 50 000 employees, working in around 100 countries worldwide. Their IT department faces the challenge of providing their customers and employees with up to date data from a number of real time sources.
"SO4IT built our new planning and reporting tool, Lighthouse. They where responsible for everything from gathering requirements, designing, developing, testing and integrating it into our existing IT environment. With their help we have a modern Java based application that our employees uses on an every day basis to provide real value to The Linde Group. I was amazed by how much we could get done with such small means. Traditionally we are not an open source based organization. We have always bought licenses for everything, with the belief that it will provide us stability. Instead of spending resources on expensive non-working commercial software we spent it on tailor making our own solution. In the end it produced a superior software with spot on functionality."
Lars Wallstén, Project Manager at The Linde Group, Sweden
